Dr. Teresa Gohen graduated from Pennsylvania College of Chiropractic in 1984. Her education had a strong emphasis on developing palpation skills. Palpation refers to examination by hand. The chiropractic philosophy that health comes from within rather than from a pill or a surgery is an important premise ofthe training to be Doctors of Chiropractic.
Chiropractic education does not to devalue the importance of medical treatments, but acknowledges the fact that our bodies have an inborn healing wisdom. This healing wisdom flows from the brain to the spinal cord and then to all your organs and tissues. As chiropractors, the main goal is to detect small misalignments in the spinal column that can impinge the flow of your body’s innate healing ability.
After graduation, she took four years at home to raise her young children. In 1988, she began working in a group practice that included Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Massage Therapy. There she honed her skills as a Chiropractor for fifteen years.
Always updating her education, Teresa was particularly interested in herbal studies. Raising three sons provided many opportunities to learn the value of traditional herbal support for health and wellness.
She studied Craniosacral Therapy in the mid nineties with the Upledger Institute. This gentle technique helps to release deep tension held in the fascia. Patients found this one hour treatment both energizing and relaxing at the same time.
A new decade in the early 2000’s was a busy time for learning. During the early 2000’s she was accepted as an Herbal Apprentice by Patricia Chichon RN, NCP of the Chrysalis Center. Teresa completed a program of intensive herbal studies over two and a half years totaling 150 hours of training.
She also taught anatomy and physiology at Pennsylvania Institute of Massage Therapy for three years. “As new massage students their minds were open and excited about holistic care. I enjoyed sharing my own experiences with the students,” says Dr. Teresa.
In January of 2003, with all her experience, she happily opened Upper Bucks Gentle Chiropractic, providing gentle chiropractic adjustments, manual therapies, core exercise training, herbal and nutritional support and Craniosacral Therapy.
